The Fall River UrbanRiver Visions Charrette
was a great success due to strong community support and participation.
The charrette was held on on Saturday, November 23, 2002 and drew
over 75 interested citizens and local and state officials who shared
their ideas and enthusiasm for Fall River's downtown and river and
falls.
Some of the key initiatives discussed at the charrette included:
- Implementing the Quequechan River Bike Path;
- Creating new greenspaces and a loop trail along and around the
Quequechan River;
- Restoring the river by improving water quality, removing contaminated
sediment, and daylighting parts of the river that are now buried;
and
- "Freeing the falls" - bringing back the dramatic waterfalls
that once graced the western part of the city.
Fall
River has made progress toward these objectives with funding from
UrbanRiver Visions and other sources. For more details, click on
