- The Charrette and Plan Implementation |
The Hudson UrbanRiver Visions Charrette was a great success! The charrette, which took place on October 8 and 9, 2002 drew over 65 interested citizens and local and state officials who shared their ideas and enthusiasm for Main Street and the Assabet River.
Taking advantage of the river to create attractive destinations and strong pedestrian connections with Main and South Streets was at the heart of a vision that emerged over the two days of the charrette.
Some of the key initiatives discussed at the charrette included:
- Establishing a river park below the dam and a town waterfront above the dam with a continuous river walk linking these two destinations.
- Improving the pedestrian setting of South Street and the cross connections between Main Street and the Assabet River.
- Exploring further the potential of a town parking garage and the uses this would support such as river parks and a four-season performance facility.
- Encouraging growth of an urban village within walking distance of Main Street through the redevelopment of old mill building sites for residential uses.
